Trust is the foundation of every relationship,
and you can trust Professional Bowenwork Practitioner David Willingham and the Bowen technique to reset the muscular restrictions that often cause pain and discomfort.
Advanced Bowenwork Practitioner David Willingham is available in Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties and Northern California for Bowenwork sessions on an outcall basis - your location. Or, you may book an in-person office appointment in Carmel.
David's complete advanced training in Bowenwork insures clients receive all the benefits the technique offers.
Bowen does not aim to "treat" specific conditions, but rather to stimulate the body to activate its own healing mechanisms.
David's warm and caring style helps clients feel safe and secure while receiving Bowenwork, a gentle hands on therapy. As the technique will ease tension, some people fall asleep during the session. This is quite a compliment as the sympathetic nervous system quiets down and the body becomes relaxed, overcoming the 'fight, flight, or freeze' response many people undergo daily without knowing it. The Bowenwork will initiate responses within the para-sympathetic nervous system that triggers a relax and digest response.
After a session, drinking extra water and walking are prescribed to flush out toxins and help reset tension patterns that cause pain and discomfort. After a session it is helpful the client does not sit stationary for longer than 30-minutes, giving the body mechanics a chance to rebalance from walking around a bit. Taking a nap afterward is fine for most folks who may want to rest during the detoxification process.
Bowenwork creates strong signals the autonomic nervous system uses to re-balance areas of muscle restriction. Tissue tension is eased to assist the body's structural alignment.
The elegance of Bowenwork is that it addresses the body as a whole. It affects not only the musculoskeletal framework, but also the fascia, nerves and internal organs. The body's integrated response to Bowenwork improves circulation and lymphatic drainage; it also enhances the assimilation of nutrients and the elimination of toxins from the body.

David has been providing quality Bowenwork to clients more than 17 years. He now offers class trainings for "Bowenwork: An Introduction to Wellness In Your Hands." David is an Associate Instructor with the American Bowen Academy (www.americanbowen.academy). This is the American arm of the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia.
His dedication to the original Bowen technique resulted in receiving accreditation for Advanced Bowen 1 and 2 from the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia. This array of advanced moves pioneered by Mr. Tom Bowen of Australia and taught by Oswald and Elaine Rentsch insures people receive the best this technique offers.
Bowenwork can be performed over clothing or on the skin. The practitioner places fingers or thumbs over precise points on muscles, tendons or other soft structure.
She or he then applies gentle rolling pressure to affect a change in the underlying tissue using a crosswise move, as opposed to stroking the muscle lengthwise. The changes stimulate the body's autonomic nervous system to rebalance.
This style of bodywork aims to sneak under the radar of the Sympathetic Nervous System and allow the individual receiving the work to relax. Too many people under stress maintain a 'startle reflex' in their body, which undermines the body's self-healing capabilities. After the Bowenwork session, the hands on moves initiate a healing response on structural and energetic levels.
"Bowen doesn't work!" This statement is true and false; true if a person interrupts the Bowen process by using another bodywork technique, heat and/or ice, or magnets, infrared lights and electrical stimulation soon after receiving a session. It is false because cell proprioception begins immediately after a Bowen move, causing change in the person's tissue and musculature to reset tension patterns within the fascial framework of the body.
